Meg and Cal’s wedding at The Arlo blended Texas charm with disco chic details and an elegant black and white color palette. The design was truly unique, brought to life by their talented planner, Sheila Camp Motley.

The Arlo is a relatively new venue that landed on the Austin wedding scene in spring 2022. The venue’s minimal color palette and light-filled, modern spaces were a match made in heaven with the couple’s vision. They held their ceremony in the Storie Hall, followed by a cocktail hour on the lawn and a reception in the Ballroom.

Elegant Neutral-Toned Reception in The Arlo Ballroom

The Ballroom at The Arlo is a neutral space with oversized iron and glass windows, perfect for bringing any wedding vision to life. Meg and Cal embraced a palette of modern neutrals for their event, with shades of classic black and eggshell white accented by tan and sage green hues. The tonal tablescapes featured pops of off-white flowers and greenery against a beige tablecloth. Meanwhile, modern sage green chargers and clear acrylic dining chairs gave the design a fresh feel.

A black and white checkered dance floor anchored the space and added a bold touch that made the neutral-toned design feel anything but boring. But the most showstopping element was all the greenery Sarah from Stems Floral brought into the space! She covered the iron chandeliers in sprigs of softly draping vines and even brought in potted trees. Her signature touch breathed life into the Ballroom and elevated the design from excellent to extraordinary!

Disco Details and a Texas Chic Brunch

One of my favorite parts of Meg and Cal’s wedding design was their embrace of the high-low trend. They brought in some Texas charm into the celebration to offset the formal elements, so it never felt stuffy! Their vision was a “Texas-Chic Disco,” and to pull it off, the details were everything. One of those details was their escort card display, which featured miniature disco balls customized with each guest’s name. They styled it with full-size disco balls and greenery to create a lighthearted and inviting segue into the black-tie reception.

However, the fun didn’t end with the reception. The following morning, the couple hosted everyone for brunch to continue the celebration. It was a classic Texas BBQ featuring a Bloody Mary bar, custom bibs, and trucker hats. It was the perfect way to cap off a wedding weekend in Austin! As a wedding photographer, I love when I am able to capture the rehearsal, and the post-wedding brunch. We can create a proposal for you that includes a full wedding weekend so you can have every moment photographed.

An Unforgettable Outfit Change

Before making their grand firework fountain exit, Meg and Cal changed into one-of-a-kind outfits with Texas flair. Meg wore a satin two-piece set that was perfect for dancing! She paired it with all-white accessories, including cowgirl boots, a cowgirl hat, and a blingy Western-style jacket. Meanwhile, Cal upgraded his classic black suit jacket to a red jacket with black velvet trim.

Meg loved 35mm so much that we added a member of our team to capture their day completely on 35mm. It gave such an elevated feel to their wedding gallery and allowed us to capture some beautiful candid moments. I first learned photography on 35mm, so it holds a special place in my heart.

To learn how to mix this medium as a part of your day, let me know in your inquiry, and we can create a custom proposal to include film.
