One of the things I love most about engagement sessions is how much they set the tone for the wedding day. It’s a chance to slow down, connect, and get comfortable in front of the camera long before the celebration begins. By the time the wedding arrives, my couples already know what it feels like to be photographed together, and that familiarity makes all the difference. For Frances and Will, their Engagement Session at Laguna Gloria was the perfect way to do just that.
One Of My Favorite Engagement Session Locations: Laguna Gloria
Choosing the right location is one of my favorite parts of the engagement session process, and Laguna Gloria is always high on my list. Overlooking the Colorado River and just minutes from downtown Austin, this historic estate feels like a hidden escape. Built in 1916 and now part of The Contemporary Austin, the grounds are filled with elegant architecture, rotating sculptures, and expansive gardens that offer endless variety. The Italian-style Driscoll Villa, in particular, has a way of transporting you straight to Europe.
Frances and Will leaned into the romantic, effortless feel of the location. Frances wore the Halliday Plunge Dress by Zimmermann, a floral linen piece perfect for the gardens. Will complemented her look with a dusty blue and white striped jacket and khakis. Relaxed, timeless, and true to him.
And then there was Winnie.
Their French bulldog absolutely stole the show. Winnie loved being held by her mom and dad, and with the help of a squeaky toy (and her favorite little duck she proudly carried between shots), she delivered the sweetest head tilts right on cue. Including pets in engagement sessions always adds a layer of joy and authenticity—and Winnie was a natural.

Austin Engagement Captured on Film
We captured part of their session on 35mm film, something I love incorporating into engagement sessions, portraits, and weddings whenever possible. Film has a softness and honesty that pairs beautifully with moments like these – unposed, relaxed, and full of personality.
With their wedding coming up this June, and planning underway with Tessa of Pearl Events, this session felt like the perfect prelude. It gave Frances and Will the opportunity to ease into the experience, enjoy each other, and trust the process. Engagement sessions aren’t just about photos. They’re about connection! And helping my couples find locations that feel perfect is one of the best parts of my job. Want to see more engagement sessions and portraits like this? Explore the gallery and reach out.
