I am off! To Sin City, Nevada for a week of learning and having fun at the annual WPPI Conference. Not only is this my first time to go to Vegas, but this is my first year attending the conference - I am STOKED. Wish me luck!

To give you some cute pictures to look at for a week, I decided to showcase my sister-in-law's cat, Franklin (aka Frankles). He is truly a liger, with a huge flowing mane and paws the size of my fists...he is surprisingly very photogenic.

A couple weeks ago, the pack got back together and even had some fresh new faces! I absolutely love getting together with other photographers in Houston, not only because I make new friends, but I am allowed to completely and utterly geek out on photography gear. That's right, I said it. I like to talk about the new photography gossip out in the market. You knew every industry had to have it, right?

Here are some shots from our day! The amazing couple Kimberly and Chris were our models as we scavenged for cool walls in Downtown Houston.

I am overwhelmed by all the love and support that has been shown in the last couple of days. Last weekend, I got together with Kim and Joe to shoot their engagement session. Our timing could not have been better, the clouds literally parted an hour of so before we were set to meet. By the time we were together, the sun was shining for the first time in what felt like weeks in Houston. We started off on the Sabine Bridge capturing some gorgeous skyline images and then headed in town for some random colorful walls. Kim and Joe were absolutely heaven to work with. Their contagious smiles literally light up their faces when they look at each other. I loved observing them together. It also proves that their wedding next month will be a fun evening!

amber and maurice.

Amber and Maurice make my heart smile. It was almost two years ago that I shot their engagement session and their day was finally here on Saturday, January 16th. Amber with her loud, infectious laugh and expressive faces and Maurice with his quiet, steady and loving presence. I feel like I have been waiting for their day to arrive for forever!

They were married at Williams Template and the reception took place at the Stafford Centre. One of my favorite things was that Amber had not one, but TWO beautiful dresses to wear on her night...not to mention some really hot red shoes for dancing.

It was a beautiful night full of love, laughter and some SERIOUS dancing. The talented Kimberly Brooke second shot this with me.

Let the party begin!! One of the most amazing things I have ever seen was when Amber's sorority girls made a circle around her and started singing. It was incredibly intense and powerful. Kim had her fisheye lens out and caught the pics of the girls below. Although yours truly got in the way of the second one, it was too perfect not to post. In the picture after, you can see what I was capturing...

After much, MUCH negotiating, Erum and Aman embarked on the last day of their journey - the Nikkah. With the love of their families surrounding them, they were officially bound together for life. It was a beautiful day.

And so the celebration of Erum and Aman continues!! Our second day was the biggest crowd by far, with everyone coming together at the Paraiso Maravilla for their Sangeet. The food was amazing, the music was kickin' and the dance floor was packed!

I LOVE mehndi parties and Erum & Aman's was no different. It feels so close and intimate as friends and family come together to prepare for the weekend celebrations. And who doesn't love seeing the groom get attacked with eggs and ketchup? The eggs are for fertility, mind you.

I'm not someone who wins things. For real. I spent most of my childhood licking stamps and submitting myself to random competitions. The only thing I ever won was a year supply of Herbal Essence hair products. Sounds cool, you may say? Well, yeah, until you realize it makes your hair greasier than Pauly D's pillow. Anyway, I stray from my point. I had a nice surprise in my inbox after lunch today saying that my photos had been chosen in the 48-hour raw photo contest by Totally Rad Actions! They are releasing their brand spankin' new presets for Lightroom tomorrow and were looking for raw photos to show off their new magic. Out of 135 people who submitted, three of my favorite images were chosen! Check out the images below (with a few of my favorite presets in action) and check out the new actions here.

Seriously, I'm pumped!!

February is a new month for me. A month to stretch myself as an artist. Do something different. Shoot for myself and be myself.

As many of you know (and have previously seen on my blog), experimental shoots usually have something to do with my cousin Ann. I don't know what I would do without her. She listens to me babble about different ideas and her answer is always the same, "of course." This time was no different. I said I have ALWAYS wanted to do a photoshoot in a parking garage at sunset and Ann's answer was, "of course." So here you have it. A little something different from my normal style and I am kind of digging it. Oh and did I mention my cousin just launched her new etsy shop?? She was kind enough to preview some up and coming headbands in our shoot.

This is for all of you who say I don't show my face enough on this blog. I can't help it, it makes me feel naked to stare at a pic of me on my blog!! This was taken by none other than my cousin.

I had the pleasure of working with the talented Dusty Gilbert from skirt! Houston and Taft McWhorter, owner of the McWhorter Gallery on this hilarious shoot. Our goal was to show the many different roles that Taft plays in his life, making him a superhero of sorts. And it is called skirt, so obviously we made him dress the part. Check out the article here.
