welcome. Thanks for stopping by!  This is my brand-new, totally amazing blog.  I am pumped to be able to share my voice and my photography with the whole wide world.  My name is Julie Wilhite and I am a portrait/wedding photographer based out of Houston, TX.  That's right, I'm a Texan...and I promise I don't ride a horse to work everyday.  Feel free to take a look around, maybe even drop me a note.  Would love to hear from you!

Oh, if all of my weddings could be nestled in between Tuscan columns as the sun sets behind them...I would be a happy photographer. I had an amazing time being a part of Anna and Josh's wedding day yesterday on Sunday, December 27th. There are many more pictures to come, but I wanted to tease you with a sneak peek. Doesn't Anna look gorgeous?

Hello! I am sure you have all been just as busy as me running from one family event to the next. The holidays are a time for friends, family and spending quality time together. I am so thankful for this time of year.  It is a reset button to get back to the core of who we are and the people we love.

And because all posts are better with a picture, here is a pic I snapped yesterday in Dallas at my cousin, Ann's, house. How beautiful is her tree??

If anyone has heard me talk about my travels, you have heard me mention my favorite place on earth.  Cape Town.  Hands down, no question.  It is a place of incredible, awe-inspiring beauty, but its pulse is more than skin deep.  When you are there, you can feel that you are on the tip of Africa, of the beginning of humanity.  I can't explain it.  It has just always held a special place in my heart from when I lived there in 2003 and from when I came last year.

This vacation was different for me, because it was the first time I was able to share something that I love with the people that mean the most to me.  Chris absolutely loved it (which I confirmed him by asking every 5 minutes) and we packed our days full with fun and relaxing activities.  Here are some of my favorite pics.

We started off with some shopping in the Waterfront area...

And for anyone who didn't hear me bragging, our house was absolutely phenomenal.  Who wouldn't be in love with a city, when we stayed at an amazing, modern oasis with views of the best beach in Cape Town - Camps Bay.

Oh, did I mention the view from our bedroom?  This was one of the sunsets we watched.

We took a day trip to the southern tip of the Cape Peninsula and hiked up to Cape Point.  Not to mention the phenomenal drive along the coast to get there...

The last two images are from the drive back to our house.  Sometimes I feel the scenery is so beautiful, so perfect, it looks fake.  I assure it's not.  :)

And for a happy ending, here is my adorable husband.  He road me around one day when I wanted to take pictures.  He is actually covering himself from the sun due to a deadly sunburn the day before.  LOL.

On Chris and I's quest to eat more local and organic food, we decided to head out to the new Haven restaurant in our neighborhood with friends. It is the first certified green restaurant in Houston and was absolutely delicious! You are surrounded in super modern surroundings and offered a menu of ever-changing seasonal meals. They are a "farm to table" type menu, which basically means what it sounds - your food comes directly from the farm. If there is an item they can't find at the farm, they take the item off the menu and replace it with something else that is in season. Basically, you are eating the way we were meant to eat.  In seasons. Before we started shipping fruits and vegetables from halfway across the world...

I promise I won't go on and on, but I will encourage you to support the movement and go enjoy an amazing new restaurant! I had the long fin white tuna and it was soooooo good. I also strongly recommend the squash bisque. Oh, and the shrimp corndogs! Yum!

I apologize for my lack of blogging this week.  :( Our house has been lovingly under construction, which for me, meant no tv and no internet.  What is a girl to do? THEN, I got sick. Sigh. Sometimes life throws everything at once.

One thing that has kept me upbeat is Temper Trap.  My sister Cindy (congrats on her music taste!) introduced me to them. The song Sweet Disposition (my absolutely favorite) is also on the movie (500) Days of Summer.  It is heaven.  I promise, they are the answer to your prayers to make it through a dreary day or an entire dreary winter.
  Check them out here.
