welcome. Thanks for stopping by!  This is my brand-new, totally amazing blog.  I am pumped to be able to share my voice and my photography with the whole wide world.  My name is Julie Wilhite and I am a portrait/wedding photographer based out of Houston, TX.  That's right, I'm a Texan...and I promise I don't ride a horse to work everyday.  Feel free to take a look around, maybe even drop me a note.  Would love to hear from you!

Here is to a beautiful Friday and a beautiful weekend. I am off to Austin to hang with the hippies and celebrate being another year older (don't ask me the total!!).

My cousin Ann came to visit a couple weeks back to help kick off my bday celebrations, here are a few pics that I snapped while we were checking out a local arboretum. Ann is also celebrating a big day tomorrow. She is the strongest woman I know and I am forever thankful to have her as a part of my life. Here is to growing wings. I love you, Tan!

Devin & Jeremy have been through a lot. Devin has been feverishly planning their wedding and there have been many ups and downs.  But when I went to go visit last Friday, I was happy to see that she was smiling.  Plans were starting to fall in place and things were looking up. They totally have the right idea. Sometimes it is easy to carried away with planning a wedding and making sure every detail is perfect.  At the end of the day, what is really important, is the two of you.  You and the person that you love, surrounded by the most important people in your life saying "I do."  I am so excited to shoot their wedding on November 14th!

Here are some of my favorite pics from our day together:

After we had spent some alone time together, we went back to their house to take some family photos of them with their three beautiful golden retrievers.  Do you have any idea how hard it is to get three dogs to look at you at the same time?  All the cat noises I am used to making were proved to be counter productive :)

Over the past few months, Michael Jackson has been everywhere. Understandably so, since his life was cut short so abruptly and many fans have mourned his loss.

Last night, something funny happened. The DJ suddenly broke out with an MJ tribute and of course the crowd went crazy. There was this little boy...he was so cute and he started dancing. Not in a babish bounce-your-hips kind of way, but really jamming to the beat. He was LOVIN' the Michael Jackson. It made me stop and think. Michael Jackson was special - he moved people in a special way and he will continue to motivate people and adorable children to get out on the dance floor and move their hips for generations to come. Here are some of HIS moves that made me fall in love with him:

Today is a beautiful day. I woke up this morning, grabbed a cup of coffee and just breathed in the fresh air. It is crisp with no hint of humidity (a miracle for Houston). On days like today you can't help but be thankful.  I'm thankful for my beautiful husband, my family, my gorgeous kitty Babygirl and everything else that makes up my life. A few years ago, I don't think I could have ever dreamed that I would be this happy. Life likes to throw you curveballs and sometimes you don't feel like you are going to make it to the end. But without the bitterness of life, the sweet would not be so sweet.  I'm thankful for everything in my life that has made me who I am. So today, in honor, I'm just going to keep breathing. AND continue to be pumped that in ONE month and ONE day, we will be in Cape Town, South Africa.  WHOO HOO! Here is a pic I took last year in the vineyards...

Many rumors have been flying around about my BIG REVEAL.  Most notably, my mother asked me if I was pregnant.  :)  I'm sorry to disappoint, but my big reveal has nothing to do with babies, but more importantly has to do with new, really cool stuff.

I teamed up with one of the most talented designers I know, August Kovach, and gave my look and feel a little face lift.  I wanted my brand and my business to more accurately portray who I am and my goals in photography.  Fun, quirky, and full of life.  I am all about capturing REAL people - who they are in a picture, in a moment, in life.  In honor of this goal, August helped me create a whole suite of items that are like my little brand army.  They go out into the world and tell everyone they know who I am.  I'm kidding.  My goal was to create an experience for my clients and make sure that any piece I send out into the world makes a statement and leaves people with a little piece of who I am and who I am as a photographer.

Why a hummingbird, you might ask?  A smart little card company, Papyrus, says this:

"Legends say that hummingbirds float free of time, carrying our hopes for love, joy and celebration.  The hummingbird's delicate grace reminds us that life is rich, beauty is everywhere, every personal connection has a meaning and that laughter is life's sweetest creation."

Perfectly said.

My "new, cool stuff" and I had a photoshoot.  I know it's hard to believe, but they look even better in real life.  Here are some of the main items.
